Join the fight for More, And Better, American Passenger Trains
Have you ever been frustrated by a late train? Have you wished that the system went somewhere that it doesn’t? Or runs faster than it does? With an Rail Passengers Association Membership, you’re being proactive and actually doing something about it. For 50 years, Rail Passengers Association has been the passenger’s tireless advocate, in Congress and with transit agencies and Amtrak.
We keep our fingers on the pulse of transportation legislation here in Washington D.C., and know when decision makers have the best or worst intentions for our passenger trains. We'll reach out when big decisions are in the pipeline to make sure they don’t do damage in obscurity.
We make it easy for you to send letters and emails, and make phone calls to your representatives, and push them to support our passenger trains. With our system, you can usually do so in less than a few minutes!
With stagnant funding for Amtrak, an absence of leadership in developing world-class passenger trains in America, and a transit system that is failing to meet growing demand, it is essential that we defend and fight for a modern, national passenger rail network. Rail Passengers Association works tirelessly every day to do just that.
PLUS, We Offer the Ultimate Internship Opportunity
“Summer By Rail” is perhaps the greatest internship in America. Started in 2016, each summer the Rail Passengers Association sends its paid intern correspondent on a month-long cross-country trip by train to see America. On their journey, the correspondents report on the rail passenger network from inside the train. They talk with passengers about how they use transportation to work, live and play. They meet with mayors and government officials in big cities and small towns on planning issues. And, they sample the local food, drinks, entertainment and recreation that is available through the passenger rail network. In 2016, we focused on biking and the outdoors, in 2017 two interns teamed up to look at different styles, architecture and fashion across the country, and last year Jacob Wallace went to 19 major, minor and independent league baseball stadiums to show us how accessible they were…or weren’t.
In 2019, Rail Passengers has decided to focus on food. The selected intern will play a big part in deciding what that means, where the trip will go, and how it will unfold. The search for candidates for next summer is already underway. If you think you might be the right person for the job, send us a note at [email protected], and tell us your vision and why you would be the best candidate.

"On behalf of Amtrak’s onboard service staff, I want to thank the Rail Passengers Association for honoring their hard work with this award. The past couple years have indeed been difficult for Amtrak onboard service staff – coping with furloughs and job insecurity, adapting to changing protocols and services, not to mention the unfortunate events such as a tragic derailment and a fatal shooting. Nevertheless, our dedicated members at Amtrak have handled these hurdles with the care, attention and diligence for which they’re known. We thank Rail Passengers for their acknowledgement of our members’ hard work and, as always, look forward to seeing you on the rails."
