WHY: To Urge Congressman Molinaro and our Congressional delegation to Oppose Cuts to Amtrak funding proposed by the House Appropriations Committee
The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the FY24 THUD Appropriations bill in mid-September. The proposed bill would cut Amtrak funding by 64% from the FY23 adopted budget and reduce Federal Railroad Administration capital program grants to passenger rail by 60%. The Senate Appropriations Committee has not recommended large cuts to Amtrak funding for FY24. If adopted, these cuts will result in greatly reduced Amtrak service in the Hudson Valley and across New York State.
"The COVID Pandemic has been and continues to be the biggest challenge faced by Americans as it has taken a deadly toll on the world and on the world’s economies. During COVID Locomotive Engineers at Amtrak and other Passenger and Freight Railroads have embodied the definition of essential workers. This dedication by our members is not new. We applaud the Rail Passenger’s Association for recognizing the vital contributions of our members and their hard work moving Americans and freight during the COVID pandemic."
